Arm & Cubit Flashcards
describe the brachial fascia.
continues from Pec. Major and deltoid
Surrounds entire and continue to forearm & hand
limits the size of the compartment (compartment syndrome)
What are the names of the fascia separations in the arm?
Brachial fascia
Medial inter muscular fascia
Lateral inter muscular fascia
describe the MEDIAL inter muscular fascia
separates anterior and posterior compartments medially
splits medially to create the neurovascular compartments
has muscle attachments
describe the lateral inter muscular compartment
splits the anterior and posterior compartment laterally
describe the Neurovascular compartment.
holds brachial arteries and veins (venae comatans)
Median and ulnar nerve starts (pierces fascia to go posteriorly to elbow)
What are the muscles of the anterior(flexors) of the arm?
Brachialis
Biceps brachii
Coracobrachialis
What is the origin, insertion and action of Coracobrachialis?
Origin - Corocoid process
Insertion - Upper 1/3 of humerus
Action - Flexing and adducting arm at shoulder joint
What is the origin, insertion and action of the Brachialis muscle?
Origin lower anterior shaft of the humerus
insertion- coronoid process of ulna
Action- major flexor of shaft at elbow
What is the origin, insertion of the biceps brachii short head?
origin- corocoid process of scapula
insertion - radial tuberosity of radius/ antebrachial fascia
What is the origin and insertion of the Biceps brachii long head?
Origin - supraglenoid tubercle
insertion- radial tuberosity/antebrachial fascia
What is the action of both Bicep brachii?
Fuses into a common belly Stabilize shoulder joint assist in flexing elbow supunation of arm assist in flexing shoulder
What muscles are used for flexing the shoulder 0-50/60 degrees?
Anterior deltoid
Coracobrachialis
Pec. major (clavicular head)
What muscles assist in moving the shoulder muscle from 60-120 degrees?
Trap.(superior and middle)
Serratus anterior
What muscles ar used to complete the shoulder rotation 120 -180 degrees?
Supraspinatus (add. arm flexion)
Trap. inferior (add. shoulder rotation)
What are the muscles of the posterior( extensors) of the arm?
Triceps brachii (lateral, long, medial) anconeus
