Signed at the end of the most devastating war that the world had seen. Only right that losing countries should pay for the damage.

Normal for losers of a war to agree harsh terms. German was harsh with Russia when it withdrew from the war - what would it have done with the Allies if they won.

Europe was falling apart. Peacemakers had to act quickly.

What happened when Russia withdrew from the First World War ?

Germany made them sign The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, which took away more than a quarter of their farmland and population. If Germany had won - how harsh would it have been with the allies.
