What do all ARBs treat?
HTN
What can Losartan also treat?
CVA
What do blocking A2 receptors cause?
Vasodilation, urinary excretion of Na & H2O and retain K
Are they given over ACE inhibitors?
No, 2nd in line, less able to treat MI
What do they not cause, but ACE inhibitors do?
Cough and hyperkalemia
What are some adverse S/E? (2; AHypoTN)
Angioedema, Hypotension
How do you treat the S/E?
IV Epi (A) ; Fluid therapy (HypoTN)
Usual Dose or Route?
PO only
Is an ARB ever combined with anything?
Yes, Hydrochlorothiazide
Can it be given with or without food?
Yes to both
Is it safe for pregnant/lactating women?
No, Category D medication
What should patient report? (2)
Angioedema, HypoTN
