Captopril, Enalapril, Lisinopril
How does it work?
Blocks Angiotensin II (A2) production
What does blocking A2 cause? (3)
Vasodilation, urinary excretion of Na & H2O and retain K
Side Effects? (7) (HHypoMANDR)
HypoTN, rash, metallic taste, hyperkalemia, neutropenia, dry cough, angioedema
What is another name for ACE?
Kinase II (K2)
What do ACE/K2 cause? Why?
↑ in Bradykinin ; no ACE/K2 to break it down
↑ in Bradykinin causes what 2 S/S?
Dry cough and/or Angioedema
1st dose of ACE Inhibitor given at?
Low dose and gradual ↑ (prevent HypoTN)
What is monitored?
BP (HypoTN), S/E: IV Epi, Stop Med(A); CBC w/Diff (N); Other Meds & Food (Hk↑)
How is it usually given?
PO only; 2-3x Daily (HTN); 3x for Daily (CHF)
Can you give it with food?
Yes, except for Captopril (1HR before meal)
What are the therapeutic uses? (3)
HTN, HF, Nepropathy
Is it safe for pregnant/lactating women?
No, Category D medication
