What conditions may a Commander direct drug testing?

A

Unit inspections. (either the entire or part of a unit)
• Search and seizures/probable cause.
• Competence for Duty.
• Rehabilitation.
• Mishap or Safety Inspection.
• Consent (specimen may be provided voluntarily by a Soldier).
• New Entrant.
• Medical.

Under what conditions may a Soldier not Self-Refer to ASAP?

A

If currently directed to participate in a unit drug test, when apprehended by law enforcement agencies for being under the influence or posession of controlled substances.

A

Yes. If the Soldier self enrolls after an event such as unit inspection but prior to receiving the results, if the results come back positive commanders may direct a self-referral be changed to command referral.
