- John Jay sent to Britain with list of grievances
- Britain ceded on very few issues, seen as loss for the U.S.
Pinkney’s Treaty
- allowed U.S. to ship on Mississippi River
- defined border between U.S. and Florida (Spain)

- stepped down after 2 terms - set precedent
- warned against alliances with other countries
