approaches Flashcards
what approach category is the 737?
C
what should the approach briefing consist of?
- TOD point
- hold and join
- initia segment procédure to be used
- type of approach
- QNH
- MAP
how do we commence the outbound leg of a procedure?
- start timer over beacon
- set heading bug for outbound drift and turn onto it
- call outbound
- descend when safe
- set CRS pointer to inbound track
how do we correct for HW/TW on the outbound of a procedure?
1 second per knot of HW/TW
in still air, what is the expected gate angle at the end of the outbound leg of a 1 minute hold?
40 degrees
how is the track adjusted for HW/TW on an offset hold join?
1/2 second per knot of wind
when would we use 2x drift correction with wind from the holding side?
when the heading using 3x drift falls within 30 degrees of the wind direction
when is the only time we can fly level to the MAPT in the 737?
when using a NPA to position for a circling approach
what should we do if we can’t get DME for a NPA?
- create a CDFA approach using altitudes and distance measurements from another approach
- GPS/P-RNAV approach using the FMC
- SRA approach
- diversion
what should corrections be limited to above 1000ft on an approach?
no more than 5 degrees either side of track and no more than +/- 300fpm
what should corrections be limited to below 1000ft an approach?
no more than 1-2 degrees either side of track and no more than 100fpm rate of descent
what does a 1 degree pitch change on the approach equate to in change of ROD?
200fpm
what is the rule of thumb in the 737 if you end up low on the approach?
double the error (100ft low = reduce ROD by 200fpm) be careful not to go unstable using this rule however.
what is the rule of thumb for working out lead turn into the DME arc?
1% of groundspeed + ARC distance
