11
Q

What is the purpose of immunohistochemistry?

A

Confirming it is a lymphoma
Helps to subclassify
Looks at patterns of proteins on surface of lymphoma cells
Uses antibodies against these, and enzyme reaction
Brown = positive

Q

What is immunophenotyping?

A

Cells tagged with antibodies attached to a flurochrome-emits a specific colour of light when a laser is shone on it
Determines patter of CD numbers

16
Q

For what conditions is immunophenotyping useful for?

A

Leukaemia

Lymphoma involving marrow e.g. burkitt’s lymphoma

17
Q

What is the purpose of cytogenetic analysis?

A

Specific patterns of chromosome abnormality in certain lymphomas
G banding; aspirate node, grow cells in culture and look at spread of chromsoomes

18
Q

What is pathognomonic of hodgkin’s disease?

A

Reed Sternberg CElls - very abnormal B cells which have lost normal proteins assoc with B cells e.g. CD 20

19
Q

What are the different types of lymphoma?

A

Hodgkin’s
T cell NHL
B cell non-hodgkin’s; low grade B cell or high grade B cell
