Approach Flashcards
A go-around must be immediately initiated when:
Not enough visual guidance is available.
Visual guidance is obtained but the airplane’s position is inadequate for a safe landing.
The approach becomes unstabilized below 1,000 ft HAT.
What mode will be off during all approaches?
Half Bank (½ BANK) mode.
What can mitigate localizer capture anomalies during approaches?
Using white needles for localizer intercepts up to the FAF and switching to green needles far enough outside the FAF.
What must be done to avoid overshooting the final approach course?
Ensure the aircraft does not overshoot final, particularly beyond 12 miles from the threshold, during strong winds, or with high intercept angles.
What should the PM monitor when using white needles for navigation on the final approach course?
Monitor green needles prior to intercepting and while on the localizer to ensure FMS guidance is concurrent with the localizer course.
Pilots must meet the stabilized approach criteria with the conditions listed by 1,000 ft HAT or a go-around is mandatory.
What must the approach briefing for a PRM approach include
A review of the “Attention all Users” page on the reverse side of the approach plate.
When is the autopilot used for a PRM approach?
The autopilot is used unless deferred.
What do breakout instructions for a PRM approach include?
A turn to a heading away from the conflicting aircraft and could contain either a climb or descent.
What is the first step when a breakout command is issued during a PRM approach?
Disengage the autopilot.
How should the aircraft be flown after disengaging the autopilot during a breakout command?
Hand fly the maneuver until the assigned heading is acquired.
What does the PM do during a breakout maneuver in a PRM approach?
Calls out headings, altitudes, and airspeeds as required
