If I take a random sample of 20 hamburgers from FIVE GUYSand count the number of pickles on a bunch of them… and one if them had nine pickles , then the number nine from that burger would be called _______ ?
Datum or a data value
If I take a random sample 20 hamburgers from FIVE GUYS and count the number of pickles on a bunch of them… and the average number of pickles was 9.5, then 9.5 is considered ________ ?
Statistic (summary of the sample)
If I take a random sample of 20 hamburgers from FIE GUYS and count the number of pickles on a bunch of them… and I do this because I want to know the true average number if pickles on a burger at FIVE GUYS, the true average number of pickles is considered a _________ ?
Parameter (summary of a population) or the population of interest
What is the difference between a sample and a census?
A sample is when you collect data from a portion of the population where as a census is data collection of an entire population. You can get a parameter from a census but can only get a statistic form a sample.
Use the following words in one sentence: population, parameter, census, sample data, statistics, inference, population of interest.
When a population is too large to find the parameter through a census, one can collect sample data from a sample of the population of interest in order to produce a statistic which can be used to make an inference about the entire population.
If you are tasting soup… Then the flavor of each individual strings in the spoon is the ______, the entire spoon is a ________. The flavor of that stuff together is like the _________ and you use that to _______ about the attire pot of soup which would be the ___________.
