Appendicular Skeleton Flashcards
What does the pectoral girdle attach?
Upper limbs to trunk
What does the pelvic girdle attach?
Lower limbs to trunk
What does the medial (sternal) end of the clavicle articulate with?
Manubrium and first rib
What does the lateral (acromial) end of the clavicle join to?
Scapulae
What is the role of the pectoral girdle?
Provides attachments for muscles that move upper limb
What does the clavicle only articulate with?
Axial skeleton
Is the pelvic girdle more flexible than the pectoral girdle?
NO! The pectoral girdle is more flexible
Where does the clavicle extend?
Horizontally across superior thorax
Where is the trapezoid line?
Ridge for trapezoid ligament on the acromial end (posteriorly)
Where is the Conoid tubercle?
On the clavicle
Inferior to the acromial end
Under the trapezoid line
Where is the impression for costoclavicular ligament?
Inferior, On the sternal end
Attachment site for first rib and clavicle
Between which ribs is the scapula located?
Ribs 2-7
Where is the lateral angle located?
Corner of the glenoid cavity
What is the coracoid process?
Hook-like projection for muscle attachment
What is the spine (on scapula)
Ridge on back of scapula
Where is the supraspinous fossa located?
Depression above spine
Where is the Infraspinous fossa located?
Depression below spine
What is the role of the subscapular notch?
Indentation for nerve passage
What is the glenoid cavity?
Socket for humerus
How many bones are in the upper limb?
30 bones
What is the humerus?
Longest and strongest bone of the arm
Where is the medial epicondyle located?
Bony prominence on medial elbow
What is the lateral epicondyle?
Bony prominence on lateral elbow
What is the radial sulcus of the humerus?
Diagonal groove on posterior humerus for radial nerve
