App 1 Flashcards
Anterolateral abdominal wall
Muscular wall of abdomen
Serves to: protect the viscera in abdomen, accessory muscles for respiration, compress abdominal contents to increase intra abdominal pressure during coughing sneezing defecation and parturition, provide movement of trunk
Rectus abdominus
Arises from 5,6,7 costal cartilage
Inserts on pubic crest
Divided by tendinous intersections we usually have 3-4
Active flexion and keep lumbar spine straight
Anterior rectus sheath
Extends from costal margin to pubis
Firmly attached to tendinous intersections
Inserts into linia alba
Trans versus abdominus
Fibres run in transverse direction except lowest ones which run obliquely downward
Arise from inner layer of costal margin from the sixth rub to the twelfth
Below it arises from iliac crest
Fibres end in transversus aponeurosis
Internal oblique
Arise from thoracolumbar fascia and iliac crest
Highest fibres insert into lower three ribs
External oblique
Arises from rib 5-12
Inserts into iliac crest
Lining of abdominal cavity
Parietal peritoneum lines
Beneath the peritoneum there is iliopsoas fascia and transversalis fascia
Inguinal ligament
String band of tendinous tissue
From anterior superior iliac spine to pubic tubercle
Femoral VAN pass through gap
Inguinal canal
Infemale round ligament of uterus passes through this
In male it’s the spermatic chord (Inguinal rung)
Laterally attached to anterior superior iliac spine, medically attached to pubic tubercle
Foregut
Begins at abdominal oesophagus
Stomach
Ends at 2nd part of duodenum at major duodenal papilla
Midgut
Major duodenal papilla
Jejunum
Ileum
Caecum
Appendix
Ascending colon
Ends at last third of transverse colon
Hindgut
Last third of transverse colon
Descending colon
Sigmoid colon
Superior rectum
