Characteristic of APAS
autoantibody-mediated ACQUIRED thrombophilia, recurrent arterial or venous thrombosis and/or pregnancy morbidity
Mottled reticular vascular pattern, lace-like, purplish discoloration of the skin
Livedo reticularis
Very small vegetations, platelet-rich microthrombi surrounded by growing fibroblasts and macrophages
Libman-Sacks endocarditis
Lab findings associated with APAS
Coombs-positive hemolytic anemia
and thrombocytopenia
Diagnosis of APAS
> or equal to 1 clinical +
or equal to 1 laboratory
even in the presence of other causes of thrombophilia

Vascular Thrombosis
Pregnancy morbidity
Lab criteria for APAS
intermediate or high titers on 2 occasions 12 weeks apart of
LA
Anticardiolipin
Anti-B2GPI antibodies
Treament for APAS
LIFETIME anticoagulation after the first thrombotic event
Warfarin to achieve INr 2.5-3.5
if pregnant
Heparin with aspirin
IVIg 400mkd x 5 days
GCs no role
