AP01 - endocrine gland topography Flashcards
Which 3 hormones does the thyroid produce?
T3
T4
Calcitonin
What do the parathyroid glands secrete?
Parathyroid hormone, which helps regulate Ca2+ and P04 levels
What does PTH do?
stimulates osteoblasts and osteoclasts into breaking down bone to release calcium. it also accumulates Vitamin D, promoting calcium absorption in the kidneys
What supplies the adrenal glands?
inferior phrenic artery
middle and inferior suprarenal arteries
What drains the adrenal glands?
the suprarenal vein
What are the three sections of the adrenal cortex?
Zona Glomerulosa
Zona fasciculata
Zona reticularis
What does the zona fasciculata secrete?
Glucocorticoids - cortisol
What does the zona glomerulosa secrete?
Mineralocorticoids - aldosterone
What does the zona reticularis secrete?
Androgens (male traits + reproduction)
What does the adrenal medulla secrete?
adrenaline and noradrenaline
What supplies the thyroid?
The common carotid artery, with the cricothyroid branch
What drains the thyroid?
The thyroid venous plexus, into the internal jugular vein
What are the different bile ducts?
The common bile duct and the gall bladder bile duct
What surrounds Pancreatic islets?
Acinar cells, which secrete digestive enzymes
What is the function of aldosterone?
salt content regulation in the distal tubes and collecting ducts
