How have the developments in technology, philosophy and science affected the roles of religions in society?
People just used to accept everything they learned through religions but now they are more likely to challenge it as there are more sources. The bible etc are no longer the only sources of knowledge.
How might ideas from on religious group or tradition become part of another?
They might live along side eachother and influence eachother or have formed together and parted. People following the religions may have similar views. Similar or same events may have caused or influenced religions.
How did missionaries impact on Aboriginal culture, religion and spirituality?
They created missions to house Aboriginal people and teach the, how to be ‘civilised’, understand western culture and lifestyle and become Christian. Also to be educated. In missions they weren’t allowed to leave or practice their culture or own religion. Some took on Christianity or integrated it into their own religion. There are similarities between the religions eg. Light is a guide.
What is the Dreaming and why is it significant to Indigenous religious traditions?
The sacred stories of the aboriginal people that they believed to take place in a timeless world. Used to describe the relationships and balance between the spiritual, natural and moral elements of the world. Stories that are linked to the certain creation processes and spiritual ancestors.
How did European settlers view and treat Aboriginal people?
Land was taken without consultation- terra nullius Stolen from, sexually abused Put on reserves and missions Assimilated Taken
What are sacred places for aboriginal people?
Uluru and Kata Tjuta or the Olgas. Quinkan and other rock art
How is aboriginal spiritual kept alive today?
Incorporated into spirituality, through policies that protect it, by elders
