What is dissociative identity disorder?
Multiple personality disorder
Caused from extreme childhood trauma
What is depersonalization/derealization disorder?
A type of dissociative disorder where the person experiences feeling unreal, detached, outside the body, numb, dreamlike.
Involves mind, self, body, surroundings.
What are some things to remember when we are treating a patient during a panic attack?
Anxiety increased? Listening decreased!
Stay with patient

What is the limbic system and what does it do?
The emotional brain.
Made up of several organs including the amygdala, hippocampus, thalamus, basal ganglia, cingulate gyrus and hypothalamus.
The job of the limbic system is to scan for danger, fight/flight response, reset system after fight/flight.
What 3 neurotransmitters are responsible for anxiety responses?
Serotonin (too low)
GABA (too low)
Norepi (too high)
What is agoraphobia?
Fear of being in a place without help or escape
What is generalized anxiety disorder?
Worry disease
What meds are used to treat OCD?
SSRIs

What is the activating effect in SSRIs?
Can temporarily INCREASE symptoms

Stress manifests as physical symptoms

Hypochondria

Also called conversion disorder

What is fictitious disorder?
Münchausen syndrome
What is fictitious disorder imposed on another?
Munchausen by proxy
