Define Anxiety
A feeling of worriness or unease out something with an uncertain outcome
What is one approach to studying anxiety
Anxiety creates physiological arousal in the body which prevents us from paying attention to important cues, so recall is worse. One approach to studying anxiety and EWT is the addition of a weapon
Johnson and Scott (1976) conducted a weapon focus study on anxiety. Explain their study
P’s believed that they were taking part in a lab study. while seated in a waiting room. one control group was low anxiety level and the other was a high anxiety level.
Explain what the low anxiety control group witnessed
They saw a man having a normal conversation and then walk past was a pen and grease on his hand.
Explain what they high anxiety level witnessed
They heard a loud argument, the sound of broken glass, then a man walk past holding a knife covered in blood.

p’s then had to identify the man. 49% of the low anxiety group git it correct, 33% of the high anxiety group got it correct.
Yuille and Cutshall (1986) conducted a study on the positive affect of anxiety. Explain their study
They Conducted a study on a real shooting. 13 witnesses took part. Four to Five months later they were interviewed, these interviews were compared to the police interviews.
