definition of anxiety
a negtaive emotional state of experiencing stress
what is trait anxiety
innate and enduring so predictable in all situations
what 4 factors may cause state anxiety
fear of loosing or failure, pressure to win
fear of injury or harm
fear of being embarrassed
high arousal = more likely to get high anxiety
what is cognitive anxiety
in the mind - worrying about loosing, missing your shot etc
what is somatic anxiety
physiological response to anxiety e.g. sweating, shaking, rapid heartbeat
what is cue utilisation
when we concerntrate/focus on what is important (selective attention) and we ignore irrelevant stimuli
what happens to performers attention if arousal is too low
attentional field is too wide and they cant concerntrate
when does cue utilisation occur
at the optimum attentional field
what happens to attention if the performer is under aroused
attentional field is too narrow to focus and may miss important cues
