Anusvar And Chandra Bindu Flashcards
Anusvar
Is an actually letter “n” sound that is added after a vowel. It is represented by one dot above the horizontal word line. There are multiple “n” sounds in Hindi, but the anusvar “n” is actually part of a Consonant cluster (meaning there is never a vowel between the anusvar n and the next consonant) so to say the correct n sound you just position your mouth to say the other part of the cluster and try to say n.
ONLY used above CONSONANTS
Chandra Bindu
A moon dot symbol above the horizontal word line, that affects the VOWEL so you say the vowel through your mouth and nose.
ONLY used above VOWELS
अं
an (actually a vowel, so when you see this dot randomly above a consonant and the consonant doesn’t have any vowels so it’s modified by the short a, and it’s obviously not a consonant cluster - its not Anusvar, its actually this special vowel)
