What are they indicated for?
A
Acute treatment of viral infections e.g. influenza and COVID-19
Pre-exposure prophylaxis to reduce risk of HIV
Chronic treatment to suppress viral load in hepatitis, B, C or HIV infection to reduce morbidity, mortality and onward transmission

What side effects occur with these drugs?
A
GI upset
Skin reactions
Dizziness
Sleep problems
Long term treatment:
Dyslipidaemia
Hyperglycaemia
Hypertension
Weight gain
Increased risk of cardiovascular risk

A
Increased risk of bronchospasms in patients with asthma, COPD when inhaled zanamivir is used
