Q

Class I MHC/HLA (intracellular)

A
  • present to antigen CD8+ T cells (CD8 binds the alpha3 domain)
  • NK cells use it to determine if cell is self
  • binds peptides 8-10 AA
  • expressed on all nucleated cells

Q

Class I MHC/HLA formation

A
  1. Production of proteins in the cytosol
  2. Proteins become Ubiquinated
  3. Proteolytic degradation of proteins
  4. transport of peptides from cytocol to ER
  5. TAP holds peptides in place and Tapasin holds Class I MHC chain
  6. peptide moves into peptide groove and a vesicle is broken off the golgi
  7. Suface expression of peptide-class I complexes

Q

MHC class II (extracellular pathogens)

A
  • present antigen to CD4+ cells (CD4 binds Beta2 domain)

- Only on APCs

Q

Dendritic cells

A
  • Pick up Ag in periphery and take it to a LN
  • Use CCR7 to attach and travel
  • upregulate CD40
  • upregulate CD80=B7
  • can present to both CD4 and CD8 T cells
  • naive T cells principle function
