Antigen Processing Flashcards
What is antigenic specificity?
It can distinguish between two proteins that differ in only a single amino acid
What is immunologic memory?
A second encounter with an antigen seen before which induces a heightened scale of immunity
What do effector B cells do?
They secrete antibodies but only live for a few days
What do antigen presenting cells do?
They deliver co stimulatory signals needed to activate TH cells
Where do TH cells bind to?
They bind to antigenic peptides complexed with MHC 2
What’s humoral immunity
The first encounter with naïve B cell with an antigen starts a primary response
In humoral immunity, after the antigen binds, what happens?
The B cells are activated and differentiates into plasma and B memory cells
In innate immunity, how long is the response time?
Hours
In adaptive immunity how long is the response time?
Days
