Antifungal Flashcards
Polyenes MOA
binding to sterols –> K+ & Mg++ channels forming and being released
Both Amphotericin B and Nystatin are in which drug class
Polyenes
Azoles MOA
inhibition of 14-a-sterol demethylase
Which drug can inhibit excess production of glucocorticoids in pts with Cushing syndrome
Ketocanazole
Treats cryptococcal meningitis
Fluconazole because it can penetrate CSF
Echinocandins (- fungin) MOA
inhibits formation of 1,3-b-D-glucans in the fungal wall = reduces integrity of the fungal cell wall
(target Fks1p)
Griseofulvin MOA
inhibits microtubule function = disrupts assembly of mitotic spindle
Griseofulvin treats
fungus containing keratin –> normal tissue
Tinea capitis in children
Terbiafine MOA
inhibits fungal squalene epoxidase = blocking erogsterol synthesis
increased sterol squalene = toxic to organism
Nystatin is given
topically
