Diazepam Class
Benzodiazepine sedative / Anticonvulsant
Diazepam Actions
CNS depressant, elevates sz threshold, skeletal musc relaxant
Diazepam Indications
suppresion of sustained and/or recurrent grand-mal sz; sedation for cardioversion or acute anxiety
Diazepam Contraindications
respiratory depression; glaucoma
Diazepam Adult Dose / route
5-10 mg IV slow (less than 5 mg/60s) repeat in 10 minutes up to 30 mg.
Diazepam Pediatric Dose / route
0.1-0.3 mg/kg/IV slow , repeat ea 2 min to 1mg/kg. or PR @ 0.5 mg/kg half dose repeated at 10 min
Diazepam Side Effects
drowsiness, lethargy, hypotension, dysrhythmias

status epilepticus, sedation prn

0.05 mg/kg IV slow up to 4 mg, repeat in 10-15 minutes

Lorazepam side effects
anterograde amnesia, vertigo, hepatic dysfunction
