Anticoagulation Flashcards
1
Q
Components of a clot
A
Fibrin - Protein that stabilises a clot and forms a mesh to trap reb blood cells
Platelet - A type of blood cell that forms clumps to add mass to thrombus
2
Q
Classification of antithrombotic drugs
A
Anticoagulants - Slows down clotting, reducing fibrin formation
Antiplatelets - Prevents platelets from aggregating
3
Q
Aspirin
A
Inhibits COX-1 preventing arachidonic acid formation into prostaglandin H2 preventing pathway to activated platelet
Arachidonic acid x prostaglandin h2 > thromboxane A2 > TXA2 > Activated platelet
