Anticoagulant Drugs Flashcards
1
Q
Heparin
A
- Unfractionated heparin
- binds to antithrombin (AT)
- inactivated thrombin
- binds to clotting factors XII, XI, X and IX
- inactivation of these factors = decrease in platelet aggregation and clot formation
- Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH)
- longer duration of action and better dose-response relationship
- molecular is more uniform and allows for more specific binding to receptor sites = fewer side effects
