Anticoagulant Drugs Flashcards

1
Q

Heparin

A
  • Unfractionated heparin
  • binds to antithrombin (AT)
  • inactivated thrombin
  • binds to clotting factors XII, XI, X and IX
  • inactivation of these factors = decrease in platelet aggregation and clot formation
  • Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH)
  • longer duration of action and better dose-response relationship
  • molecular is more uniform and allows for more specific binding to receptor sites = fewer side effects
