• decrease in sympathetic outflow
• Results in:
• sedation
• muscle relaxation
• analgesia
• Synergistic effects seen when combines with other analgesics

• Respiratory depression
• bradycardia
• peripheral and cardiac vasoconstriction
• Hypo or hypertension
• First or second degree AV block (Less common)
