Anticipation, deception and percpetion 4 Flashcards
Research also indicates that….
the goalkeeper can effectively use deception against the kicker.
Weigelt and Memmert (2012) found that….
if the goalkeeper displaced themselves slightly to one side of the goal, kickers would direct more kicks to the greater goal-side, even if they were not aware of the goalkeeper’s displacement.
Results of displacement study
A goalkeeper displacement of 1.5% resulted in almost 70% of kicks to the greater goal-side.
Goalkeepers could use this to their advantage by…..
placing themselves a little more to their weaker side on the goal line. This will increase the likelihood of the penalty taker to kick to the opposite side of the goal, which corresponds with the goalkeeper’s stronger side.
However….
despite this research having significant implications for both goalkeeper and kicker, there is no reference to this in the BASES statement.
