Anticipation, deception and percpetion 1 Flashcards
One key weakness of the BASES statement is that….
it doesn’t acknowledge the importance of anticipatory and deceptive skills, or support for the goalkeeper’s perspective.
In the average football penalty….
it takes 500ms from the ball being kicked to reach the goal, but the goalkeeper’s movement time plus reaction time averages 750ms.
To save the ball the goalkeeper must do what?
assess the direction of flight, the ball speed, decide the appropriate response, and carry out the response, it is very unlikely they could do all of this in 500ms (Kuhn, 1988).
It is therefore evident that….
there is an element of anticipation, i.e. prediction of what is going to happen, involved by the goalkeeper to allow them to save goals.
