Anticholinesterases Flashcards
1
Q
Edrophonium
A
- edrophonium inhibits acetylcholinesterase at anionic sites w/ electrostatic bonding, esteratic sites with H-bonding (no chemical bond)
- fast onset, short-lived
- muscarinic side effects are less (1/2 atropine is needed to prevent bradycardia as is needed for neostigmine or pyridostigmine)-0.5-1 mg/kg
2
Q
neostigmine
A
- transfers carbamatic group to esteratic site
- 0.06-0.07 mg/kg
3
Q
pyridostigmine
A
-requires longer to act, longer duration of action
4
Q
physostigmine
A
- rx central anticholinergic syndrome
- tertiary amine (not quarternary)
