Cause: Staphylococcus aureus
management: cleanse and debride
topical otic drops
Pain control = NSAIDs, topical corticosteroids
Flashes of light
floaters in the eye
blurred vision
shadow or blindness in part of the visual field of one eye
RETINAL DETACHMENT - separation of retina (light sensitive membrane) from back of eye
referral for surgery
Acute otitis MEDIA
cause: streptococcus pneumoniae, H. influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis (rarest)
Usually viral
Antbx only for bacterial suspicion - Amoxicillin-Clavulanate
Normal rinne test finding is what
Air conduction is GREATER than bone conduction
Normal weber test findings =
SOUND HEARD BILATERALLY IS EQUAL THERE IS NO LATERALIZATION
What is erythromycin ?
a macrolide
What is ceftriaxone ?
Cephalosporin
kills- h. influenzae
streptococcus pneumoniae
gonococcal infections
pseudomonas
Sinusitis
cause: streptococcus pneumoniae, H. influenzae
Decreased transillumination **
Tx- Amoxicillin - clauvlanate AUGMENTIN or DOXYCYCLINE (penicillin allergy)
