Antibiotics Flashcards
Mupirocin
inhibit Ile-tRNA synthase
Aminoglycosides (Streptomycin, Gentamycin, Neomycin, Tobramycin, etc.)
bind 30S subunit; inhibits initiation and causes miscoding during elongation
Tetracyclines
binds to 30S subunits and block attachment of charged aminoacyl-tRNA to the A site
Puromycin
resembles aa-tRNA (tyrosine analog), peptide transferred to it, chain termination (works on both prokaryotes and eukaryotes)
Macrolides (Erythromycin)
inhibits ribosomal translocation (erythromycin binds EF2)
Chloramphenicol
binds to 50S subunit and inhibits peptidyl transferase
Spectinomycin
binds to 30S subunits and block attachment of charged aminoacyl-tRNA to the A site
Clindamycin
inhibits ribosomal translocation
