What is an example of a aminoglycoside?
Gentamicin
What is Gentamicin used to treat?
Gram negative bacteria (particularly serious gram negative infections like Coliform)
Also used to gram positive- staphylococci
What are tetracyclines used to treat?
Broad spectrum treatment, that is useful in genital tract and respiratory tract infections.
Should not be given to pregnant women or children <12 as it is deposited in teeth and bone.
What does clarithromycin and erythromycin treat?
Gram positive bacteria, they are alternatives to penicillin
What is azithromycin used to treat?
Chlamydia infection
What is linezolid used to treat?
MRSA
What does the cyclic lipopeptide daptomycin treat?
Gram positive bacteria- including MRSA
