Antibacterial Drugs

Superinfection

DOC for gram-positive cocci, meningitis and syphilis. Could also be used as prophylaxis against bacterial endocarditis prior to dental and other procedures
Penicillins
This is a type of antibiotics affecting protein synthesis that binds to 30s ribosomal unit of the MOs; the DOC for rickettsia, chlamydia and mycoplasma, spirochetes such as syphilis and lyme.
Tetracyclines
An antibiotic suitable for treating complicated UTI, but can also be given to px with repiratory, skin, GIT and bone infections
Quinolones
This drug inhibits bacterial growth by preventing synthesis of folic acid, and used for treating UTI caused by E. coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Neisseria
Sulfonamides and Trimethoprim
An antibiotic indicated for acute UTI and prophylaxis of recurrent UTI
