Anti-coagulants Flashcards
What are the types of anticoagulants?
(Heparin)
Heparin
LMWH
Synthetic
(other)
Factor X/Xa inhibitors
Direct thrombin (Factor II) inhibitors
Vitamin K reductase inhibitor
What are examples of heparin medications?
Heparin
What is the antidote to heparin?
Protamine sulfate
Where is Antithrombin III made?
Liver
What is an example of Factor X/Xa inhibitors?
Apixaban, rivaroxaban (note the Xa in the name!)
What is the MOA of Factor X/Xa inhibitors?
Inhibits Factor X/Xa
*factor X to factor Xa which is clotty)
What are examples of Direct thrombin (Factor II) inhibitors?
Univalent: argatroban and dabigatran
Bivalent: bivalirudin, desirudin
RUDIN
What is the MOA of Direct thrombin (Factor II) inhibitors?
Univalent: bind only to active siteBivalent: bind to active site and ”pre-active” site
What is an example of a vitamin K reductase inhibitor?
Warfarin
What is the MOA of vitamin K reductase inhibitor?
inhibits activation of several factors in the cascade (VII, IX, X, II) through inhibition of vitamin K recycling (often used with heparin therapy)
What is the antidote of vitamin K reductase inhibitors?
Vitamin K
What does heparin act on?
Acts on anti-thrombin
What is the antidote for warfarin?
Antidote: Vit K
Oral administration
Lots of DDIs and D-Food Inx, narrow therapeutic window, requires close monitoring
