Anteromedial Forearm Flashcards
Pronator Teres
Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus and
coronoid process of ulna
Insertion: lateral surface of midshaft radius
Action: Forearm pronation, assists with elbow flexion
Innervation: Median Nerve (C6, C7)
Flexor Carpi Radialis
Origin: Medial epicondyle of humerus
Insertion: Base of 2nd and 3rd metacarpal
Action: Wrist flexion, abduction
Innervation: Median nerve (C6, C7)
Palmaris Longus
Origin: Medial epicondyle of humerus
Insertion: Distal half of flexor retinaculum and palmar aponeurosis
Action: Tenses palmar aponeurosis, weak wrist flexion
Innervation: Median nerve (C7, C8)
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
Origin:
Humeral head = medial epicondyle of humerus
Ulnar head = olecranon and posterior border of ulna
Insertion: Pisiform bone, hook of hamate, base
of 5th metacarpal
Action: Wrist flexion, adduction
Innervation: Ulnar nerve (C7, C8)
Pronator Quadratus
Origin: Distal 1/4 of ulna
Insertion: Distal 1/4 of radius
Action: Forearm pronation
Innervation: Median nerve - anterior interosseous (C7, C8)
Flexor Digitorum Superficialis
Origin:
Humero-ulnar head = medial epicondyle of humerus and coronoid process of ulna
Radial head = superior half shaft of anterior radius
Insertion: middle phalanges of digits 2-5
Action: 2nd-5th MCP flexion, 2nd-5th PIP flexion, wrist flexion
Innervation: Median nerve
Flexor Digitorum Profundus
Origin: Ulna and interosseous membrane
Insertion: Distal phalanges 2-5
Action: 2nd-5th MCP flexion, 2nd-5th DIP flexion, wrist flexion
Innervation:
Medial 1/2 = ulnar nerve (C8, T1)
Lateral 1/2 = median nerve - anterior interosseous nerve (C8, T1)
Flexor Pollicis Longus
Origin: Radius and interosseous membrane
Insertion: Distal phalanx of thumb
Action: Thumb IP flexion, 1st MCP flexion
Innervation: Median nerve - anterior interosseous (C7, C)
