Anterior Upper Limb Muscles Flashcards
1
Q
What are the anterior upper limb muscles?
A
- Biceps brachii
- Brachialis
- Flexor digitorum superficialis
- Flexor carpi ulnaris
- Flexor carpi radialis
2
Q
What are the movements of biceps brachii?
A
- Long head- arm abduction and medial rotation
- Short head- arm adduction
- Both heads- arm flexion
3
Q
What are the attachments of biceps brachii?
A
- Origin: supraglenoid tubercle of scapula (long head) and apex of coracoid process of scapula (short head)
- Insert: radial tuberosity and deep fascia of forearm
4
Q
What are the movements of brachialis?
A
- Major flexor of forearm at elbow joint
- Flexion of elbow in all positions
5
Q
What are the attachments of brachialis?
A
- Origin: distal half of anterior surface of humerus
- Inserts: coronoid process of ulna and ulnar tuberosity
6
Q
What are the movements of flexor digitorum superficialis?
A
- Flexion of proximal interphalangeal joints 2-5 and 2nd-5th metacarpophalangeal joints
7
Q
What are the attachments of flexor digitorum superficialis?
A
- Origin: from medial epicondyle of humerus, anterior border of radius and coronoid process of ulna
- Inserts: bases of middle phalanges 2-5 of hand
8
Q
What are the movements of flexor carpi ulnaris?
A
- Adduction and flexion of wrist joint
9
Q
What are the attachments of flexor carpi ulnaris?
A
- Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus, olecranon of ulna and posterior border of ulna
- Inserts: base of 5th metacarpal bone, hook of hamate bone, and pisiform bone
10
Q
What are the movements of flexor carpi radialis?
A
- Abduction and flexion of wrist joint
11
Q
What are the attachments of flexor carpi radialis?
A
- Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus
- Inserts: base of 2nd and 3rd metacarpal bones
