Anterior Lower Limb Muscles Flashcards
1
Q
What are the anterior lower limb muscles?
A
- Iliopsoas
- Quadriceps femoris
- Tibialis anterior
2
Q
What are the movements of iliopsoas?
A
- Flexion of thigh at hip
- Flexion of trunk at hip
- External rotation of thigh at hip
- Lateral flexion of trunk (psoas major only)
3
Q
What are the attachments of the iliopsoas?
A
- Origin: Iliacus- iliac fossa, posts major- vertebral bodies T12-L4, intervertebral discs, between T12-L4, costal processes of L1-L5 vertebrae
- Insert: both into lesser trochanter of femur
4
Q
What are the 4 muscles that form the quadriceps femoris?
A
- Rectus femoris
- Vastus medialis
- Vastus lateralis
- Vastus intermedius
5
Q
What are the movements of quadriceps femoris?
A
- Hip joint, thigh flexion- rectus femoris only
- Knee joint- leg extension
6
Q
What is the origin of rectus femoris?
A
- Anterior inferior iliac spine, superior margin of acetabulum of hip bone
7
Q
What is the origin of vastus medialis?
A
- Intertrochanteric line of femus
8
Q
What is the origin of vastus lateralis?
A
- Linea aspera, greater trochanter of femur
9
Q
What is the origin of vastus intermedius?
A
- Anterior surface of shaft of femur
10
Q
Where does quadriceps femoris?
A
- Tuberosity of tibia (via patellar ligament)
11
Q
What are the movements of tibias anterior?
A
- Dorsiflexion of talocrural joint
- Inversion of subtler joint
12
Q
What are the attachments of tibias anterior?
A
- Origin: lateral condyle and lateral surface of tibia and interosseous membrane of leg
- Insert: base of 1st metatarsal bone and medial cuneiform bone
