Where does psoas major insert? Originate?
Insertion: Lesser Trochanter of femur
Origin: T12 to L5 Vertebrae
Where does the Iliacus originate?
Iliac fossa
Where does the iliacus insert?
Lesser trochanter of femur
What innervates the Psoas major?
L1-L3 ventral Rami
What innervates the iliacus?
Femoral N. (L2-L4)
What is the action of the iliopsoas muscle?
hip flexion
What is the strongest hip flexor?
ilipsoas muscle
What are the four parts of the quadraceps femoris muscle?
rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius
Where does the rectus femoris muscle orginate?
Straight head - Anterior Inferior Iliac Spine (AIIS)
Reflected Head - Superior aspect of the acetabulum
Where does the vastus lateralis originate?
femur
Where does the vastus intermedius originate?
femur
Where does the vastus medialis originate?
femur
Where do all of the quadraceps femoris muscles insert?
Patella and Tibial tuberosity via the quadraceps tendon and patellar ligament
What innervates the entire quadraceps femoris muscle?
Femoral N. (L2-L4)
What are the actions of the quadraceps femoris muscles?
knee extension (primarily),
Rectus femoris can weakly flex the hip
Where does the sartorius muscle originate?
anterior superior iliac spine of ilium (ASIS)
Where does the sartorius insert?
the anterior slip of the pes anserinus on the medial aspect of the tibia
What innervates the sartorius muscle?
Femoral N. (L2-L4)
What are the actions of the sartorius muscle?
Sitting indian style:
Flexion, abduction, lateral rotation of femur
knee (tibia) flexion
Where does the gracilis muscle originate?
pubis
Where does the gracilis insert?
Middle slip of the pes anserinus on the medial aspect of the tibia
What innervates the gracilis?
obturator N. (L2-L4)
What are the actions of the gracilis muscle?
adduction of femur, knee flexion
Where does the pectineus muscle originate?
pubis
