anterior leg muscles Flashcards
what are the three main anterior leg muscles ?
tibialis anterior
extensor digitorum longus
extensor hallucis longus
what is the origin and insertion of the tibialis anterior ?
origin - lateral surface of tibia
insertion - medial cuneiform bone at base metatarsal 1
where is the tibialis anterior located ?
next to the hallucis longus just lateral to the the shaft go the tibia
what are the actions of the tibialis anterior
dorsiflexion and inversion of the foot
what is the innervation of the tibialis anterior ?
deep fibular nerve
what is the blood supply of the tibialis anterior ?
anterior tibial artery
what is the origin an insertion of the extensor hallucis longus ?
origin - medial surface of fibular shaft
insertion - base of distal phalanx of the big toe
where is the extensor hallucis longus located ?
lateral to the shaft of the tibia in-between medial to tibialis anterior and extensor digitorum longus
what are the actions of the extensor hallucis longus ?
extension of big toe
dorsiflexion of foot
what is the innervation of the extensor hallucis longus
deep fibular nerve
what is the blood supply to the extensor hallucis longus ?
anterior tibial nerve
what are the origins and insertions of the extensor digitorum longus ?
origin - lateral condyle of the tibia and medial surface of fibula.
insertion - fibres converge into tendons and the tendons and each tendon inserts onto a toe - excluding big toe
where is the extensor digitorum longus located ?
lateral to the shaft of the tibia
what are the actions of the extensor digitorum longus ?
extension of lateral four toes
dorsiflexion of the foot
what is the innervation of the extensor digitorum longus ?
deep fibular nerve
what is the blood supply to the extensor digitorum longus ?
anterior tibial artery
