What is Chadwick’s sign?
Change in color of cervix. Early sign of pregnancy. Bluish purple cervix that can extend to vagina and labia.

Hand placement on uterus that helps determines position of baby. Useful when trying to find baby’s heartbeat.

What is chorionic villus sampling?
The chorion (the little edges of the amniotic sac that burrow into the endometrium) is aspirated either through the cervix or abdomen to test for any abnormalities. Typically done in first trimester.
What is vibroacoustic stimulation?
Put a vibrating pad on abdomen to jolt baby to move.
What is a non stress test?
Noninvasive test that measures fetal heart rate in response to his movements.
What is a contraction stress test?
Also called an oxytocin challenge test. Test baby’s heart rate in response to oxytocin. Either by nipple stimulation or IV oxytocin.
What effect does estrogen have on breasts during pregnancy?
Stimulates growth of breast ductal tissue
What effect does progesterone have on breasts during pregnancy?
Stimulates growth of lobes, lobules, and alveoli
What is physiologic or pseudo anemia of pregnancy?
In early pregnancy, plasma volume increases more quickly than RBC volume. This imbalance of plasma/hemoglobin can show a low hematocrit and hemoglobin but not a true anemia.
What hormone is early indicator of pregnancy?
hCG-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin
