Naloxone - Indications

A
  • Narcotic Antagonist
  • Reverses opioid induced depression/sedation
  • *** IV Naloxone administration for respiratory depression requires the patient to remain in PACT 60 min post administration and anesthesiologist must be consulted prior to discharge
  • May also be given for opioid induced pruritis (smaller dosage)

A
  • Shorter duration of action than many opioids
  • Important to watch for rebound effects of the opioid
  • Tachycardia
  • Hypo/hypertension
  • Nausea
