Implementation
Other oral medications approximately 1 hour before or 2 hours after
Chew tablets thoroughly and follow with water
Periodic monitoring of serum electrolytes
Assess for signs of acid–base or electrolyte imbalance
Monitor for diarrhea or constipation
Monitor nutritional status if diarrhea is severe or constipation leads to decreased food intake
Provide thorough patient teaching
