Describe the anatomical position?
Head,Eyes,Toes forward.
Arms adjacent to the sides with the palms facing anteriorly.
Lower limbs closed together with the feet parallel and the toes directed anteriorly.
What are the segments of the human body?
Head. Neck. Thorax. Back. Abdomen. Pelvis. Lower Limb. Upper Limb.
What is meant by Anterior?
Closer to the front.
What is meant by Ventral?
The toes are anterior to the ankle.
What is meant by Posterior?
Closer to the back.
What is meant by Superior?
Closer to the head or upper part of the structure.
What is meant by Dorsal?
The heel is posterior to the ankle.
What is meant by Inferior?
Closer to the feet or lower part of structure.
What is meant by Medial?
Closer to the midline: inner side.
What is meant by Lateral?
Further from the midline: outer side.
What is meant by superficial?
Closer to the surface.
What is meant by Deep?
Further from the surface.
What is meant by Proximal?
Closer to the trunk or point of origin.
What is meant by Distal?
Further from the trunk or point of origin.
What is meant by Cranial?
Towards the head.
What is meant by Caudal?
Towards the buttocks.
What is meant by Central?
Towards the centre of the body.
What is meant by Peripheral?
Towards the surface of the body.
What is meant by Palmer?
On or towards the palm of the hand.
What is meant by Plantar?
On or towards the sole of the foot.
What is meant by Dorsum?
The upper most surface of the foot/back of the head.
Define Flexion?
Movement of 2 ventral surface about a frontal axis.
Joint angle reduces.
Define Extension?
Movement of 2 dorsal surfaces about a frontal axis.
Joint angle increases.
Define Abduction?
Movement away from the midline about a sagittal axis.
