Ankle/Foot Flashcards
What are the three joints that make up the foot/ankle complex?
Talocrural, Talus, Subtalar, MTP joints
What type of joint is the inferior tibiofibular joints?
fibrous
What are the three ligaments of the inferior tibiofibular joints?
Anterior inf TFL, Posterior inf TFL, Interosseus
What type of joint is the Talocrural joint?
synovial, modified sellar
What are the arthrokinematics of the Talocrural joint?
The Talus is Convex AP and Concave ML
- articulation between the tibiofibular joint and talus
- PF, posterior roll and anterior slide
- DF, anterior roll and posterior slide
Why is there conjunct movement with ankle dorsiflexion?
The anterior articular surface of the talus is wider.
The angle of the axis of rotation
What are the arthrokinematics of dorsiflexion?
Anterior roll, with conjunct eversion and abduction
- Concave (fibula) on convex (talus)
What are the arthrokinematics of plantarflexion?
The concave head of the tibia on the convex head of the talus
posterior roll, with conjunct inversion and adduction
What are the lateral ligaments of the talus joint?
ATFL, PTFL, CFL
What are the medial ligaments of the talus joint?
anterior tibiotalar, posterior tibiotalar, tibiocalcaneal, tibionavicular
What are the articulations of the subtalar joint?
Anterior articulations: concave (calcaneus) on convex (talus)
Posterior articulations: Convex on Concave (calcaneus, talus)
What movements occur at the subtalar joints?
Pronation and supination
- ML, LT movement of Tali
What 3 movements occur with pronation?
David Evan Tali Med In Add
Calcaneal eversion tali medially inwards and adduction
What 3 movements occur with supination?
David Invited Tali Mo tup & out add
Calcaneal inversion Talar DF Abduction
What is the windglass mechanism?
muscular control of the plantar fascia during gait
