Equator
The line of latitude that goes around the middle of the earth
Prime Meridian
The line of longitude that runs from the North Pole to the South pole and goes through England. It is 0 degrees longitude
Relative Location
Describing where something is located based on what it is near it. For example, thehouse is near Qualaty Dairy.
Absolute Location
Describing where something is exactly so that no other place can match the description. For example, the house address is 123 s. Main street.
Nonliving, Nonnatural Earth Materials
Thinkof our experiment when we mixed matirials together and stirred them in a cup of water. Examples include sand, gravel, oil, anything that is nonliving and made from yhe Earth.
Items made from nonliving, natural earth matirials
Think of our walk around school. These items made of sand, gravel, clay, oil, etc. Metal lockers, sandstone bricks, plastic, paint, etc.
Physical Characteristics
Characteristics of the land NOT made by humans, valleys, mountains, rivers, etc.
Humans Characteristics
Characteristics of the land made by humans, buildings, roads, cars, etc
Five layers of the Earth
Inner Core, Outer core, Mantle, Crust, Atmosphere.
Matirials that prevent land from absorbing water
Pavement, cemen, parking lots, etc
Items that can be reduced, reused, or recycle
Clothing, aluminum, paper, glass bottles, books, etc
Information that a map teaches/shows us
Special Purpose maps shows us more than just where something is. For example, they can show us climate, temperature, population density, precipitation, etc
The cause and effect of a volcano
Cause-Tectonic plates move causing a earthquake
Effect-Magma comes to the surface, becoming lava
How states are grouped together as a region
They have something in common, either climate, or temperature, or culture, or a common way of life
Why Michigan is in the Great Lakes Regoin
It is called the Great Lakes Regoin because the states surround the Great Lakes
