Vertebrates
A group of animals that have a backbone or spinal column, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish
Invertebrates
A group of animals that don’t have a backbone, including arthropod, mollusks, annelids, etc.
Cnidarians
An aquatic invertebrate animal that has the following main characteristics: Tentacles, stinging cells to grab food, can be polyp or medusa shapes.

Characteristics of Polyps: Tentacles upwards
Medusa- Tentacles down
Ectotherms
An animal that is dependent on external sources of heat for their body temperature. Cold blooded animal.
Ex: reptiles, amphibians, and fish
Endotherms
An animal that is dependent on or capable of the internal generation of heat; a warm-blooded animal.
Ex: mammals & birds
Endoskeleton vs. Exoskeleton
Endoskeleton is an internal skeleton, such as a bony or cartilaginous skeleton of VERTEBRATES.
Exoskeleton is an external covering that provides support and protection of the body for some INVERTEBRATE animals.
What are the 3 types of Fish
Bony Fish- a fish of a large class distinguished by a skeleton of bone, and comprising the majority of modern fishes. Jawless Fish- without jaws Cartilaginous Fish- a fish of a class distinguished by having a skeleton of cartilage rather than bone, including the sharks, rays.
