Q

outline lorenz’ study

A
  • took a large clutch of eggs from goose + kept them until they hatched in an incubator
  • once hatched, goslings followed first object they saw (Lorenz) between their critical period (13-16 hours)- saw him as mother
  • irreversibly imprinted as study operated during critical period
  • goslings innately follow moving objects after hatching- adaptive since they have mobility unlike human infants

Q

evaluate the animal studies of attachment

A

A: humans and monkeys are similar: Green found all mammals have same brains structure- only difference is size and number of connections
C: results can’t be generalised to humans: critical and sensitive period is different and humans are more complex
C: unethical: experiments harm animals and can cause dysfunctional behaviours in adult life (timid, difficulty mating)
