Animal Response Flashcards
Compare and contrast the sympathetic and parasympathetic NS
Sym - excite - many neurones out of CNS
Para - depress - few neurones out of CNS
How does the difference in number of neurones going out of CNS (for Autonomic NS) result in position of neurones “relay station”?
Sympathetic has many so need to meet near the CNS
Parasympathetic has few so need to split further from CNS
Relay stations are ganglions
P(ara) is closer to E(ffector) than S(symp)
Why are thyroxine and glucocorticoids important in fight or flight response
Thyroxine increases metabolic rate and sensitivity to adrenaline
Glucocorticoids regulate metabolism of carbohydrates
What hormones are released by the pituitary gland during fight or flight response?
ACTH due to Corticotrohin Releasing Homorones
TSH due to Thyroxine releasing hormones
Describe the structure of a sarcomeres
Two ends are Z lines
Actin moves out from Z lines
Myosin in the middle
HIA
H-zone = no actin
I - band = only actin
A - band = all myosin
