What is rabies?

A

-transmitted via saliva in a bite wound
-can live up to 4 weeks before symptoms show
-if untreated you will die in 10 days
-main hosts are bats and skunks
-once symptoms occur it is already fatal
-firsts starts flu like symptoms, cerebral dysfunction, anxiety, confusion, agitation, delirium, abnormal behavior, hallucinations, hydrophobia, insomnia, coma, death
-vaccinations for humans and animals

What is herpesviridae?

A

-Asymptomatic carriers
-herpes type 1(oral herpes): fatal to callitrichids
-herpes type 2 (genital herpes/STD)
-herpes B: fatal to humans from macaques
